Scottish Open Canoe Expeditions:
Canoeing on Loch Shiel and the Moidart Peninsula
Itinerary:
A true wilderness expedition, Once we leave Glenfinnan and start our journey down the Loch we see no other roads or houses till the far end of the Loch. A truly inspirational trip, wild camping our way down till we reach Acharacle as the loch narrows to become a fine narrow river twisting and turning its way towards the sea. All however is not complete as at a low tide there is a rapid to negotiate or portage. At high tide all evidence of the rapid disappear. The story of the trip again changes chapter as we will* paddle past Castle Tioram and investigate the small islands out in the sea loch.
This trip is suitable for the novice canoeist but a willingness to put in considerable effort as the Loch is 22km long. So a high level of general fitness is essential.
